A. Parish Summer Program for Student Immersion:
The congregation agrees to cover the costs of round-trip airfare, provide a host family (or families) for room and board, insurance (approximately $100 per month) and provide a modest stipend for the students personal expenses during this educational experience. (Depending on your area of the country, and the needs you expect the seminarian to cover, this can range from $20-$45 per week.) The SZS conducts interviews and selects an appropriate student, makes travel arrangements, obtains the necessary endorsement from the student's Church body and seminary administration (including official visitations, visa(s), communications, etc.).
B. Parish Summer Program for Student Immersion AND a semester at a seminary:
In addition of the financial obligations required in "A" above, the parish agrees to financially help those seminarians who are requesting to study at an American seminary as well. These negotiations are worked out on an individual basis between the host congregation/pastor and the IRC; however, variations have included the cost of any or all of the following: insurance, seminary room and board, board only, the cost of books, a stipend by which the student continues a relationship with the host congregation on weekends, etc.
