On October 12, 2025, the Slovak Zion Synod celebrated the Rite of Ordination of Brian Andrew Buzik as a Minister of Word and Sacrament at a Service of Holy Communion at St. John the Evangelist Slovak Lutheran Church in Lansford, Pennsylvania.
The Rev. Wilma S. Kucharek, Bishop of the Slovak Zion Synod, presided at this festive event, assisted by the Rev. Marjorie Keiter, Pastor of St. John’s and Secretary of the Synod. The Rev. Teresa Smallwood, Dean of United Lutheran Seminary served as preacher, while members of St. John’s in Lansford, St. Paul’s in Summit Hill, and St. Matthew’s in Mt. Carmel served as readers and participated in the liturgy along with Pastors Hugh Vrablic, David Jones, and Sharon Mead Ruff-Richter. Special music was provided by organist, Susan Mary Featro and trumpeter, Ian Keiter.
The ordination was followed by a reception in the undercroft of the church provided by members of the congregation. It was noted that the stole placed on the ordinand during the ordination was made from fabric of a personal item that belonged to his late grandmother.
The Rev. Brian Buzik is married to Sherri Buzik and is a graduate of United Lutheran Seminary. He has been called to serve as Assistant Pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, serving with the Rev. David Jones, Pastor of Holy Trinity. We welcome this new pastor to the Slovak Zion Synod and pray that God will bless him in his service to Christ and the church, and that his service will be a blessings to others.
