During Advent, the church prepares for the coming of Christ. However, Advent and December is also a time when many congregations gather together to begin celebrating the holiday spirit. On Sunday, December 15, 2024, the congregation and friends of Holy Trinity in Manhattan gathered for Advent worship in the morning, followed by their annual Christmas party in the afternoon. Included among the Slovak Zion Synod participants were Bishop Wilma Kucharek and Joshua Drobena.
The afternoon festivities featured: a generous luncheon preceded by Slovak sauerkraut soup (kapustnica) and oplatky, words of greetings and welcome, a visit from St. Nicholas and Santa who distributed gifts to the children, and a special Slovak dance program which rounded out the festivities and fellowship.
