St. Peter and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Island, Illinois hosted a special visitor in their congregation this summer. The Rev. Andrea Valentova, of Banska Bystrica in Slovakia, was a welcome guest as she shared in the life of the congregation. Pastor Valentova’s experiences included sharing worship with the members of the congregation, as well as deepening relationships with members through social, cultural, intergenerational, and immersive experiences in Blue Island and the greater Chicagoland area.
Pastor Valentova is a past participant in our synod’s Trainee Immersion Program, through which she gained experience in an American congregation while completing her seminary studies in Slovakia before her ordination. She currently serves as a pastor and teacher in the Lutheran High School in Banska Bystrica, which is currently on summer break, making it possible for her to be hosted in Blue Island.
