Family, friends, and the church family at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Danbury, CT hosted a celebration on September 10, 2023 of Dorothy Adam’s 90th birthday. Also in attendance were attendees from the Slovak Zion Synod: Pastor Kathleen Mills from Holy Trinity, Trumbull, CT who has provided pastoral leadership at St. Paul’s, and Pastor Thomas J. Drobena and Joshua M. Drobena from Holy Trinity, Torrington, CT who brought greetings from Bishop Wilma S. Kucharek who was not able to attend due to another commitment.

The day’s observance began with morning worship at St. Paul’s, and was followed by a luncheon and festivities at the Ethan Allen Inn in Danbury. At the luncheon, family and friends reminisced and shared fond memories of Dorothy’s life. Mementos were gifted to the participants as reminders of the occasion. Joshua Drobena read a Proclamation from Bishop Kucharek on behalf of the Slovak Zion Synod recognizing and honoring Dorothy for her passion and commitment to Christ and his church.

The Proclamation cited Dorothy’s faithfulness as a child of God, as a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, and as a faithful member of the church. In addition, it noted her diligence in service in the various congregations and communities in which she has been a member; her willingness to engage the challenges of ministry and mission in Christ’s wider church through service in the Slovak Zion Synod alongside her husband, Bishop Emeritus John Adam; and her continued faithful service by being a model and encouragement to others of Christian service.

We thank God for Dorothy’s faithful witness and service, and pray for God’s richest blessings in her life and service to Christ and his church.
