TORRINGTON, CONN (SZS) — Our Slovak Zion Synod family rejoices with our congregation, Dr. Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, Ohio as they begin a new chapter in ministry and mission and welcome their new pastor, the Rev. Eric Karl Markovich. We join them in welcoming this new pastor to our roster of ordained ministers of Word and Sacrament!
Pastor Markovich was installed as Pastor of Dr. Martin Luther on August 20, 2017. Bishop Wilma S. Kucharek presided and preached at the Installation. Participants included: Skip Hammond, president of the congregation, who presented the pastor for installation and was joined by Ron Shimek (vice president) and John Karkosiak (Call Committee Chairperson) in presenting the symbols of ministry at the font, pulpit, and altar to their new pastor. Doug Parobek served as communion assistant and lector; Benjamin Mohler served as crucifer and acolyte; Ray Hewitt and Bob Piovarchy served as torchbearers; and, Anna Channel served as book bearer. Musical support was provided by organist Jeff Sawders. Logistical planning and coordination was spearheaded by Garth Moore.
During her sermon, Bishop Kucharek addressed Pastor Markovich and the congregation, encouraging them in the ministry in which are embarking together. The Bishop called upon them to be mindful of the high calling which they have in proclaiming the love of Christ to everyone and directed them to pray for each other as their ministry together as pastor and congregation unfolds.
A celebration dinner followed the service in the church fellowship hall, led by Dan Tobik who served as toastmaster for this festive banquet. During this time, Pastor Markovich was welcomed by Bishop Kucharek to the roster of clergy of the Slovak Zion Synod, President Skip Hammond offered words of thanks for all who participated in making possible this special day, and Pastor Markovich expressed gratitude to all on this celebratory occasion.
We congratulate and welcome Pastor Markovich into our Synod and join the members of Dr. Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church in celebration as together they begin this new chapter of ministry in their congregation!
