TORRINGTON, CONN (SZS)Through offerings to your congregation, a portion of which are sent to the Slovak Zion Synod as mission support (benevolence) to support our mutual ministries in the ELCA and beyond, you are connected with the many people you see in these photos from around the globe: those in combat settings right now, working at the Pentagon, and praying at bedsides with our wounded. The Federal Chaplaincy Office of the ELCA supports pastors in uniform in every branch of our military, who serve to minister to those in military service and their families throughout our country and the world.

On this Veteran’s Day (November 11), we remember all those who have faithfully served their country through military service. And we pray that God will keep safe and bless our brothers and sisters who continue to provide this vital service.

This past April, Augsburg Fortress published the Prayer Book for the Armed Services. It is a resource that illustrates the collaboration over the years between Augsburg Fortress, its Worship & Music team, the ELCA churchwide Worship team, and the ELCA federal chaplains. This prayer book is a resource and devotional aid that would make an excellent gift for any of those in your congregation’s membership who provide service to our country through their military duty. You may learn more about this resource here, and order it here.
