WINDSOR, ONTARIO (SZS) — On October 13, 2013, the congregation of Nativity Lutheran Church, Windsor, Ontario, Canada celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the Rev. Rastislav Mičovsky’s pastoral ministry among them. This milestone of service was observed with a celebratory Slovak worship service led by Pastor Mičovsky; the Slovak sermon was preached by the Synod Bishop, the Rev. Wilma S. Kucharek. Words of congratulations and presentations were made by the Treasurer of the congregation, Mr. Miroslav Dudaš. Rev. Mičovsky, his spouse Andrea, and their children Kristina and Mario came to Windsor from Slovakia and began their ministry on October 7, 1993. Nativity Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Slovak Zion Synod located in Windsor, Ontario. It is the only ELCA congregation located in Canada.
Slovak worshippers from Kingsville, Ontario, long connected to the Nativity congregation from which they originated and remain connected through the extended ministry of Pastor Mičovsky, as well as other well wishers were in attendance for this momentous occasion. In addition to celebrating Pastor Mičovsky’s pastoral milestone at Nativity Lutheran, the day recognized Mrs. Zuzana Kukučka, who has led the kitchen ministry, an integral support of Nativity’s ministry, for the past twenty years. This special occasion also fell on the observance of Thanksgiving Day in Canada. Fittingly, the theme of worship was that of giving thanks for God’s abundant blessings to us. A traditional Slovak banquet was held following the conclusion of worship.
