THE REVEREND JOHN F. HAEBERLE December 12, 1934 – July 9, 2013

The Reverend John F. Haeberle, a retired pastor of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod, died on July 9, 2013. He served Holy Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh, a congregation of the Slovak Zion Synod of the ELCA.

Pastor Haeberle was born on December 12, 1934, in Huntington, West Virginia. He was the son of Max E. Haeberle and Rachel Dillon Haeberle. Pastor Haeberle graduated from Ohio University in 1955 with an A.B. Degree and from Drew University in 1958 with a B.D. Degree. Pastor Haeberle also received an M.A. from Ohio University in 1966.

Pastor Haeberle was ordained by the Ohio Synod in Bowling Green, Ohio, in June, 1967. 

After his retirement in 2000, Pastor Haeberle served at Holy Emmanuel on the North Side of Pittsburgh from 2000 until his recent illness. While at Holy Emmanuel, he and his wife, Frances, participated in the Synod’s mission tour to Slovakia. He will be remembered for his exuberant style and love of hymnody.

A memorial service for Pastor Haeberle will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church; 638 California Avenue; Pittsburgh, PA 15202 (Avalon). Pastor Haeberle is survived by his wife and by a son, Charles.
