TORRINGTON, CONN (SZS) — Today the Slovak Zion Synod recognized the Rev. John Chalupa for his 70 years of ordination into the Ministry of Word and Sacrament. Originally celebrated at the Synod Assembly earlier this year, this significant milestone was lifted up today at both the morning worship service of Rev. Chalupa’s home congregation, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Trumbull, CT, and personally to him at his home. Presenting the anniversary certificate on behalf of the Synod was Bishop Wilma S. Kucharek; also in attendance was the Vice President of the Synod, Mr. Jerry Owen and Rev. Chalupa’s children.
Bishop Kucharek invited Rev. Chalupa and his children to reminisce about the highlights of 70 years of ordained ministry; their responses were insightful and, at times, even humorous. When asked how he survived through 70 years of highs and lows, Rev. Chalupa cited his faith and noted: “I also smiled a lot.” Indeed, Rev. Chalupa, always known for his welcoming demeanor, still brings joy to those who meet him. This special time was brought to a close with prayers of thanksgiving and blessing.
Happy Anniversary and God’s blessings, Rev. Chalupa!
