This week (meaning from last time I wrote the post up till today, which was supposed to be week, but it´s a bit more :D) was so busy and wonderful! I´ve been on another concert at the Round Top, could participate on two more Sunday services, one of which I had a sermon. I could go to Farm Bureau conference, that took place in the beautiful resort in Marble Falls. I spent more time with Sirrka, pastors daughter with Down Syndrom, and even though it is hard to communicate from time to time, we had a lot of fun. And I guess I learned a lot- about her, how to talk to her, etc. And don´t get me wrong- I still think I don´t know anything!
During the conference I had a chance to spend a lot of time with pastor Lemae and talk to her a lot, and I really enjoy getting to know her, her insights on many things. After that I stayed with one great family in Schulenburg! And it is just so much fun! We visited many places (museums, one beautiful tank, painted churches) and played a lot of Mexican train. They even got me my own! 🙂 I tasted many ice-creams (Blue Bell), got to know many people.
I don´t wanna bore you with every detail, but what I want to talk about in more details is – what I call “My Armadillo day” (I don´t mean the weather connected Texas day :D). You might be wondering what that was? Let me explain and start from the beginning. It happened on the 4th of July. I went to the parade in the Round Top. I was wearing my cowboy hat and T-shirt with the American flag. The parade was really amazing, charming, full of nice people, the air was filled with excitement and I really started to enjoy my new hat.
But still it wasn´t “my day”, because even though if I am really glad for USA (your freedom, independence and unity), I am from Slovakia, which I love! But what I learned from that is, that we should celebrate more, we should be prouder of who we are, because being European is pretty amazing too! We should more talk about our past, celebrate what was good, our accomplishments and victories, to remember the good days, that shaped our thinking, and our world in general. But also, to learn from our mistakes as well.
And I might need something else than 4th of July, I need something that is “mine” to remind me of that – and for me, that´s the Armadillo Day. The day, I first rode on the parade (or even seen one), the day I realized again, how much I love my country, and the day, when I met my first armadillo! And I know it sounds silly. It is a little. But just remember I have never seen one and really wanted to! And its tiny legs moving fast under his big armor shell. I can´t decide whether it looks more like well-armed dog, or a real fast turtle, but it is so wonderful! It is becoming my favorite animal in the whole world (dogs and horses are still winning). And it filled me up with so much joy! I hope I am going to meet and see many more of these and take plenty of pictures with them. So even though it is just a little thing I want to remember it, as the Armadillo day.
