Week 29.7 – 4.8.2024

Monday – Nasa center

I start my week with Peggy, which takes me to the NASA Science Center in Cleveland. It was an amazing place because I like things about cosmonautics and travel to space.
We spent here three hours.

We see her here, very interesting and unique things like copies of Apollo modules which landed on the moon, original rock from the moon, models of spacecrafts, scientific machines from the international space station, and a lot of scientific experiments which can everyone try.

I like the most rock from the moon and scientific experiments with light spectrums. I also took photographs of the science center, because like the building it was very nice too.

Tuesday – military cemetery with Ray

This day Ray takes me to the military cemetery near Cleveland. In this cemetery are buried people who serve in the military and other veterans of wars or the military. It is a very nice place with great architecture.

Right takes me here because he was a veteran. He was in the military police and one time he served in East Germany. He was for a few years guard in military prison.
It was interesting to talk about his military service.

After this, we see from far one military funeral. It was a short, but very impressive ceremony. The most impressive was the shooting of free rounds from guns. Then soldiers give the US flag to relatives. It was a nice ceremony.
At the end of the cemetery visit, I take a few photos and we walk around memorials.

The last stop of our trip was an Italian restaurant. This restaurant is Ray’s favorite. They have good food. I choose a side dish salad and cazonni (two layers of pizza dough with stuff between). It was delicious. From there Ray took me to Rendy’s and Peggy’s house.

Wednesday – pastoral visit

Today was short day, The main part of today work at church was the visit of a man who don’t have wife. I will not write his name here. His wife died few years ago. He don’t have confortable life. More harder thing is that he had 2 light strokes so he have little problems with memory. But God bless him because he is able to take care of himself.

He talks a lot about his pain in soul, about family sitation. Normally he watches television, so he has stuff to do. For me, it was a good experience to know that many people need to be heard. They need space and someone who will listen to them calmly and with patience. We also serve the Lord’s supper and pray for these men. It was an interesting visit.

Thursday – Wisit of Joe

Today we went on another visit. We went visit Joe – men in 90’s. He is a little bit quiet. It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t talk. The hardest thing for him was the death of his wife two years ago. But he looks to be in good shape and good mood.
I and the pastor talked to him about how things go, life in a nursing home, about beer in the US and Slovakia. Pastor served Lord’s supper for him and I pray for Joe. It was a great visit.

Friday – Visit of Mariane and Wein

This day we start with work in the church office. After launch Pastor and I went to visit Wein and Marriane. I wrote about Wein in the past because he was in hospital for a few weeks with broken ribs and bleeding problems.
It was a longer, but nice and interesting visit.
Wein is now in much better shape. He looks happier and more satisfied. with his wife Mariane. She is the same age as Wein. She is a nice woman but she has memory issues. She needs someone to care for her.
There was also their daughter Dona. She is from another US state and she was here on the visit.

The pastor talks a lot about how life in the church goes. Talk about Carnival, which will be in August. And we served Lord supper for Wayne, Marianne, Donna, and Nurse, who was with us too. It was an interesting and nice visit. In the end, a guy exercises with Wayne, to strengthen his legs and arms after visiting of hospital.

Saturday – Trip to Kelly Island

This day was very great. My host family Randy and Peggy Hammond, took me on to trip on Kelly Island. Our trip started with one hour of driving to port. In this part, we wait for the ferry which takes us and our bicycles to Kelly Island.

We make tour around island on the bikes. There are a lot of beautiful places on the island. Our first stop was in a swamp area where are lots of beautiful plants and trees. There was a lot of amazing views on a nature and beach. Our next stop was the geological location where glaciers and ice make beautiful shapes in to rocks. There was a lot of sales and things to view. There was also a beautiful view of the old rock mine.

Next week go around a lot of mansions and houses next to coast. These houses were beautiful, but they must be very expensive. we stop also in restaurant where we eat great food and drink good drinks. We also take a few pictures big chair. This was very funny because I had never before seen something like this.

Interesting for me in this place was the big Cannon from the First World War. It was an interesting machine, and I enjoyed seeing it.

The last stop in our journey was stopped in shops where I bought some postcards which I will send to some people. So it was a nice and great trip. I see a lot of interesting places in nature and enjoy this bike ride. I also want to thank Randy and Peggy for this trip.

Sunday – What is that?

Sunday was calm and great. Worship service was interesting. Pastor have interesting sermon with many good points. Ane was meaning of word manna. When Israelites found Manna in the desert they ask: What is that? So name for Manna in the original Hebrew language means: What is that? It was funny but deep point of this sermon.

his Sunday service was unusual because there was a baptism of small baby. It was a nice part of this day. We also serve the Lord’s supper. I help to distribute wine – the blood of our Christ. Lord’s supper is always great to strengthen our soul and spirit.

After the Sunday service I go with organist Jeff and servant Bob to the Cleveland art gallery. It was amazing place in this gallery. It was nice architecture here and lots of great paintings and sculptures. For example, there was painting of Vincent van Gogh and then sculpture named Thinker.

then there was also a lot of ancient and medieval art masterpieces. It was first time in my life when I see on my eyes art from old Egypt Babylonia and South America. Amazing troop, and thank you Bob and Jeff!

And that is the end. See you soon in the next blog.
