Hello everyone! I hope your week was as great as mine was. Today I’m gonna tell you something about my trip to New York City!
Our trip started on Monday. I woke up at 4am since we wanted to leave at 4:45. I had my backpack already prepared so I didn’t had to hurry in the morning. Unfortunatelly I slept only for 90 minutes. I have trouble to fall asleep and my adrenalin got pumped up at night because a bat appeared in our house. It flew right next to my head when I was walking down the stairs. We needed to catch it. This was a big challenge since it flew all around. Pastor’s son John traped the bat into his room and tried to catch it. This is dangerous since bats are known to carry rabbies. When you have an adrenaline rush or are asleep and a bat bites you, you won’t feel it. The problem with rabbies is that you have to cure it before the virus spreads to your brain. When the first symptoms make known about themselves it is too late for cure. But fortunatelly, John caught it and wasn’t bitten. that meant we can go to New York early in the morning.
We made our first stop in Little Falls at the gas station. We needed some breakfast and John needed coffee. That we traveled to Albany where we had to catch our train. We made sure to be there 50 minutes before the departure of our train and we made it. We found our seats and then our two and a half hour ride befan. The trains here compared to Czech and Slovak trains are different. The windows are smaller, but the ride is more comfortable and much faster. We didn’t have any delay. To be honest I am not used to that. I travel twice a week with a train and hardly ever is the train on time. But we arrived in New York and headed to our hotel.
When we got out from the station I was quite scared and looking all around me to prevent trouble. There were many homeless people, drug addicts and overall shady looking people. My first impressions weren’t good. John was chill which is funny because he is much shorter and lighter than me. But we got to our hotel safely and left our bags there since our check un was at 4pm and we arrived at 10 am. After that we met John’s friend from college. His name is Ned and he is really a cool guy.
The first day of our adventure we wallked across Manhattan. We saw many of the things I wanted to see. Central park, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Centre, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Time Square, The Highline. We were also in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met). John and Ned are artists, the have studied it at college. They wanted to see the paintings. It was great to see some of the pictures I have heard about when I was in high school. We saw Monet and van Gogh. And we saw also many other pictures. We looked at some abstract paintings. You could see the difference between an artist and a redneck. I cannot appreciate art and especially abstract art. But then we also saw some European (aspecially Church) art from the middle ages, which I like. I love religious art. I love when the story of salvation is depicted on glass panes or somewhere else. I enjoyed that. And we also met another of John’s college friends JP. We were walking the whole day. My watch told me we did 43 thousand steps an I burned 3000 calories. You can imagine how dead we were when we returned back to our hotel.
Day two of our New York adventure was also great. We went to the World Trade Center and also the most visited French sightseen – the Statue of Liberty. World Trade Center is a great example of how much Americans care about what happened 22 years ago. You could see many people there. Many pople remebered what happened. And I shouldn’t forget the typical questions people have when you mention 9/11: “Where were you/What where you doing when the attacks happened?” This is a moment that is engraved in the memory of many Americans and I can definetely understand why. We went to a pub which serves Pilsner Urquell, one of the best beers in the world , but the one we were served tasted off. I guess the Pilsner they send to the USA isn’t really that good. Later in the evening we were at the Washington Square Park and I played a chess hustler. He beat me really easily but I didn’t come there to win but to experience. But still, I lost 20 bucks.
The last day we visited the Whitney Museum. This was a surreal experience for me. It was creepy and weird. As I stated above, I’m not an artist. The art creeped me out. I didn’t like it as much and if you have kids, don’t take them there since it is trully spooky. In the afternoon we headed back home to Little Falls. When we arrived, Canal days were going on. Canal days are a week in summer. The Erie canal that flows through Little Falls used to be a very significant bussiness route but today it is not used in that way. When the highways and railways were open, all the shipments were done by means of trucks and trains and no longer by ships. But until this day, people celebrate Canal days and yesterday we hade fireworks. It was great.
So this was my New York City adventure. I can only be thankfull to God by providing me with this oportunity. I never even dreamt about going to NYC but it happened. And I also thank John who took me with him. WHen you meet all the people I met in the past few years and now through the summer, when I realize the opportunities I was given, I cannot doubt God’s existence and the fact He has a plan with me. He works great miracles in my life. I have a great life and that is thanks to Him. He fills my cup with blessing and the cup just overflows. And eventhough I am not rich and come from a broken household, I cannot say anything wrong because I recieved so many great blessings! I can only praise. And praise is what the Lamb is worthy of recieving. The fact that I’m not rich is also a blessing because I haven’t anything to brag about. Everything I have is God’s gift. Have you something you are really grateful for? Praise God with me!
Thank you very much for reading about my adventure. I hope you liked it and I am looking forward to see what the next week brings. God bless!
