The vacation Bible school at the Redeemer church came to its end this week, so I became a part of its final night. The kids sung all the songs we’d gone over the previous month. It was very nice to see all the smiles around. We even got thank-you bags with all of them signed. I truly enjoyed every day I spent with them, including the days I was feeling a bit blue, as they always cheered me up by their singing.
I also had a small interview with the local newspaper’s reporter, who called me an enthusiastic church helper in the article.
We also had a wedding in the botanical garden, which I really enjoyed. It’s always very surprising to notice all the small differences between our cultures, at the wedding reception for the instance. On the other hand, some things never change. Such as people asking the groom to kiss the bride by hitting the glasses witch the cutlery.
I spent the rest of my time preparing stuff for our vacation Bible school, which starts tonight. We decorated the rooms, flew the fliers (literally), and bought all the food. I am looking forward to all the fun that is ahead.
Lastly, I attended a Slovak Sokol picnic, had some živánska, and listened to Polish polka. The recipes for our traditional dishes must have changed on the either side of the puddle, otherwise I can’t understand why everything tasted different. And again, some things never change, just as the quote welcoming you to the camp: nech žije, kto pije (let he who drinks live a long life). Well, maybe we aren’t that different after all.
The important thing is, though, I’m very happy to see God working around me, and in my heart also. I don’t even know how, and half of my time here is almost over! I guess that’s a sign of good times.
