TORRINGTON, CONN (SZS) The Slovak Zion Synod, in close collaboration with the leadership of the Lutheran Seminary in Slovakia (Evanjelická Bohoslovecká Fakulta, Univerzita Komenského (EBF UK) in Bratislava, Slovakia), is hosting five seminary students as this year’s participants of the Student Immersion Program of the Slovak Zion Synod. The program, which is part of the Synod’s mission in Central & Eastern Europe and organized by the Synod’s International Relations Committee, brings students of the Seminary for a summer immersion internship in a United States congregation each year. Here, they experience church life, ministry, and mission in an American Lutheran congregation, while serving as witnesses in their host congregations of the global church in their home country. A number of past participants have reflected on how these internship experiences in America have positively affected their ministry in Slovakia and, indeed, their very lives. (You may find an account of last year’s gathering of past participants in the program, here.)

This year’s students are Pavel Andrei Prihracki from Romania, Daniela Kissová from Slovakia, Michaela Hansová from Slovakia, Eva Soldánová from Slovakia, and Ana Uher from Serbia. They will be joining the more than 130 to-date student exchanges (which have taken place over the 23 year history of the program from 1991 to present).

Congregations in Muskegon, Michigan; Whitehall, Michigan; Schulenburg, Texas; Evansville, Wisconsin, and Monroe, Wisconsin will be hosting Pavel, Danka, Michaela, Eva, and Ana. They will be writing every week about their experiences in their host congregations. You are invited to read more about their experiences in the Student Immersion Program pages of our site; just look for “Seminarian Sentiments” under Mission & Ministry > Global Mission > Student Immersion Program.
