TORRINGTON, CONN (SZS) — The Slovak Zion Synod (SZS) has today launched the second of several mobile device applications that will continue to modernize communications from and within the Synod. Our self-titled Android app joins our iOS app in helping our family and friends in the Synod community stay connected. This past August, we launched our iOS app to the Apple App Store, making our Synod the first of the 65 ELCA Synods to launch a native app. Our iOS app is currently available for fourteen iOS device models capable of running iOS 6 or later. With the addition of our new Android app, our Communications Desk will reach another 5,146 different device models running Google’s Android OS, extending our reach farther than ever.
This, our second app, launching for Android-compatible devices, will function just as its iOS counterpart, as a companion app for SlovakZionSynod.org. The app, called “Slovak Zion Synod,” allows users to view news releases from the Synod website, as well as access our Synod Website from within the native app environment. The app is free to download and will receive regular updates as features are added.
These apps highlight the significance of pursuing a greater investment in caring for God’s creation, by eliminating the use of excess paper for each individual who uses the app. We have been working diligently on this particular app for the past few months and, although it may come as a surprise to some that it has reached completion so rapidly, it should be a reminder that we are always working to unveil newer and greater things to facilitate communications. The app was well-received by those in our community who volunteered to test it in our beta program, thereby assisting in the discovery of bugs and development of bug fixes prior to the app’s launch on the Google Play Store.
The purpose of this app is to further facilitate communication between the Slovak Zion Synod and its members and congregations, as well as our friends in the greater ELCA community and beyond. By downloading it to a compatible device, you will be able to read about the latest events occurring in our church—from our mission and ministries abroad, to activities and faith stories of our congregations. Connectivity through mobile devices is one of the many ways in which our Synod is keeping up with technological aids to ministry and thinking outside the box for the sake of Christ’s mission.
