Wow,\u00a0actually in 21st century is quilting in America modern?<\/p>\n
Yes.Sure.Ano<\/p>\n
I had\u00a0the pleasure to watch a quilting presentation of elderly ladies.\u00a0I\u00a0will\u00a0describe it\u00a0with\u00a0only two words-amazing show. Ladies get the theme for quilting and after six months, they present their sewing art to the\u00a0others. I couldn’t believe, that these ladies are so talented.<\/p>\n
This year\u00a0the\u00a0topic for presentation (competition)\u00a0was Christmas. Well, most of them choose to quilt Christmas trees, Santa Claus. Glenace Smelcer (my host grandma) choose snow flakes-she did\u00a0a beautiful quilt.<\/p>\n
Anyway this trend in America sounds for me as old fashioned. In Slovakia I didn’t hear about quilting competition or the show. I am convinced that in Slovakia we called quilting-patchwork. Specially\u00a0quilting is something forgotten in Slovakia, but on the other side of the world – in USA\u00a0 quilting is\u00a0more popular. This fact worried me (because Slovakia should follow this trend)\u00a0but on the other hand inspired me.<\/p>\n
You know, Glenace encouraged me to start quilting. So I worked hard and quilted a\u00a0table cover and picked up some pictures (patchwork parts),the reminded me of my\u00a0stay in Wisconsin- some flowers, nature, animals. During my sewing I realized, that sewing is relaxing. I learned how to use the\u00a0sewing machine and I couldn’t believe that with Glenace’s idea, start my love for sewing. Of course, without Glenace’s assistance\u00a0it wouldn’t be complete. Thank you my teacher.<\/p>\n
Maybe you will be\u00a0surprised but quilting in St. Johns church in Evansville is a\u00a0favorite activity. Every Tuesday\u00a0the ladies meet and quilt in the basement\u00a0of the church.These ladies use easy technique, so everyone can\u00a0help, also the beginners.\u00a0After\u00a0quilting\u00a0you can\u00a0eat some snacks. I\u00a0\u2665 to write this part because\u00a0they quilt\u00a0blankets for homeless people, isn’t it heart touching? God hands are everywhere.<\/p>\n
I can pray for\u00a0bigger interest\u00a0of quilting in Slovakia because as I\u00a0checked it here. I think that quilting is much more than work, its love and possibility to meet some people and aren’t\u00a0alone. It makes the\u00a0day happier. Moreover\u00a0quilting is a big business in America. Many quilting shops offer beautiful supplies and fabric, unfortunately its little bit expensive.TV quilt shows with a man-teacher for sewing. I was pretty impressed and shocked. Anyway\u00a0I\u00a0wanted\u00a0to say:,,Don’t forget to share with your work\u00a0with the\u00a0others.”<\/p>\n
